Some Christians argue that it is ok for them to send their children to government schools. Parents are passionate about this issue as it involves their children. Usually discussions concerning child raising turns into a heartful and emotional debate. Sometimes we need to come up for air, breathe. Now that we have some O2 in our lungs purhaps we will think clearer. Are Australian government schools religiously neutral?

Government schools and Christian children

We are to build our education systems on the Rock, the Word of God. To send your children to government schools is to be like the foolish man who built his house on the sand. Our Australian government schools are places where anti-Christian philosphy is taught to Children - socialism, no moral absolutes, evolutionary ethics, the homosexual agenda and much much more. And Christians say that it is ok to send their Christian children into these places for 8 hours a day. This is insanity.

Christian children and government schools

Christians sending their children to government schools are sinning. To send your child to sit under the tutoridge of unbelievers is totally absurd. Let's be frank - why would any Christian desire to have their children in a school system where the stated objective of that system is to teach the child what to believe about man, the world and religion? Why are teenagrers rebelling and droves upon droves of Christian children turning their back on the faith? There is a level of complexity to answer the question in full. However, when Christian parents demand that their Christian children are to walk in the counsel of the ungodly, stand in the path of sinners and sit in the seat of the scornful (Psalm 1 ), for the majority of their childhood hours what do we expect? There is a means to shape how a child will walk when he is older: training that child in the way you want him/her to go (Proverbs 22:6 ). If that training is drenched in anti-Christian humanism then all things being equal that child will walk as an unbelieving heathen when through the education process. The below video is a section of Indoctrination, the interview with acclaimed educator John Taylor Gatto. Yes, God is sovereign and He is gracious. This does not remove the obligation of Christians to be faithfully obedient to Jesus Christ in every area of life. Covenant children must be given a Christian education.

Honest Money

Gary North's book, Honest Money, is one of the best there is on the topic. The author approaches the subject from a Biblical perspective and addresses a range of issues surrounding our modern economic system. North shows how nations should use the principles and commands of Scripture to shape the way they think of money. This is an important subject. The Great Commission was for the Church to disciple the nations not merely evangelise as many people as possible. Today's easy believerism must be combated with the Biblical view of the reign and rule of Christ over all of life. Humanity is undergoing a process of maturity and the Church spearheads that growth. Does this mean we should hear sermons on money, wealth and associated political policy/systems? Absolutely. The Bible applies to every area of life. Every nation is a theocracy, Christ is now the King of kings and all authority has been given Him in heaven AND on earth. The Australian Church must move away from seperating religion and politics, religion and business, religion and etc. There is no neutrality. We either apply what God's inspired Word says or we accept and apply the word of some other deity. One path is the way of faithful obedience and the other unfaithful idolatry.

The prophet Micah condemned the crooks and politicians of his day for devising schemes to scam and rob the people. Micah 2:12 says, Woe to those who scheme iniquity, who work out evil on their beds! When morning comes, they do it, for it is in the power of their hands. They covet fields and then seize them, and houses, and take them away. They rob a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.

Households, the church’s model   Two of the key concepts behind the writing of the Pauline household texts seem to be institutional and ethical order within the household of God...

Israel and the church

There is much talk about Israel and the Jews in modern Christian circles. Many, many Christians feel that the ethnic Jews still hold a special place in God’s salvific plan. Even more Christians believe the physical land of Israel is still significant in Biblical prophecy and history. Are these things so? We ought to understand the mission of the Hebrews/Israelites/Jews and the context of how the Jewish Messiah transformed Israel through His death, resurrection and ascension. It is critical for all of us to understand the ramifications of the cross; in the first century the course of history changed, forever.

Children's ministry strategy

As parents the end goal in training our children should be to mature them in worshiping God. Covenant children should be in the worship service to learn how to fear God, both through verbal and observational instruction. Our children need to hear dad and mum instruct them in the ways of God and then see dad and mum (and the church) worship Him. From our discussion on “who are our children,” this pattern does not change in the New Testament. Children of Christians are to be taught the rules of how to behave in the house of God (1 Timothy 3:15 ). Our role as parents is to train our children in the worship of God, as this is the way in which we want them to go. If we train our children to sit at the household table well, not throw their food or scream and shout, how much more should we have them present in the gathering of God’s people to continuously disciple them in reverent fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7 ). This relational lifestyle can never be morphed to children through abstract learning; children need to observe their parents in the faith. Christianity is earthy in the sense that it is not merely a theory of knowledge; it also instructs how we are to live in the world.

Fathers shepherd your family

Husband’s and fathers you are to love your wife as Christ, the great Shepherd, loved the church, according to Ephesians 5:25 and you are to train up your children in admonition of the Lord according to Ephesians 6:3 . This is the work of a shepherd. Men the shepherding of your family, whether you have children or not, is important to Christ and His kingdom. In fact we need to get this picture in our mind: it is only part of your job to make money and provide for your family. It is half the picture and is certainly not the centre of our calling. For those of us who are husbands and fathers the very centre of our calling is not taking dominion in the jungle of our employment; rather it is our homes. Our family should not be some separate slice or aspect of our lives. It should be the very centre of our calling to exercise dominion and the primary place where we make manifest the kingdom of Christ.

Let the little children come to me

This is a lengthy article looking at church life. I am building a case for children to worship with dad, mum and their siblings each Lord’s Day and for our ministries to follow the patterns in Scripture. Why?
