Our name

Trev McCallum
Anselm Study House’s (ASH) name has been taken from the eleventh century Christian philosopher and theologian, Saint Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109). Saint Anselm was an outstanding Christian philosopher and theologian. He is best known for the “ontological argument” for the existence of God. His motto was “faith seeking understanding” (fides quaerens intellectum). Anselm, like Saint Augustine believed that faith establishes or is the foundation for reason. In the ontological (presuppositional) apologetic method the Bible is presupposed as the Word of God; and without accepting the existence of God (and His revelation) you cannot make sense of life and experience. So, when we engage in defending the faith ASH asserts that there is no neutral ground and believers should not grant unbelievers an inch of what can only be intelligible on the Christian Worldview (Proverbs 26:4-5 ). E.g. if an agnostic/atheist uses logic to ridicule Christianity, we are to question how he can account for the laws of logic, without using logic (i.e. circular reasoning), on his agnostic/atheistic worldview. ASH holds that the Bible is the Word of God and must be accepted by faith. This faith is not a blind faith. It is logical and coherent and leads us to be able to make sense of the world around us and our experiences in life. This presuppositional thinking demands believers to start from the Scriptures and subject every thought thereafter to what is revealed in the Bible. Therefore, our name reflects our distinctive of submitting everything (including the mind) captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 ).

Mission statement

Trev McCallum
It is not enough to merely criticise our Australian society and cower away to a sinking ship mentality. As the people of God we are to present the watching world with the Biblical answers for society. Culture is our religion externalised. The moral depravity of our society is a reflection of the Church and Christian families unwillingness to further the Kingdom of God on earth. Our corporate (family, Church and country) obedience to the Law of God brings covenantal and generational blessings from the hand of the Lord. The decay in our society demands the Church to answer with a counter-culture of beautiful, rich, full Biblical Christianity is laid before salivating on lookers. Our good confession (credo) must flow through our fingertips to colour every area of life. It is insufficient to claim Christ without living and building culture for His Kingdom. Anselm Study House (ASH) was founded to encourage all Australian believers to submit every thought to the obedience of the reigning Lord Jesus Christ ( 2 Corinthians 10:5 ). Our ministry is dedicated to promoting the full Christian worldview that is foundational to education (Deuteronomy 6 , cf. Luke 6:40 ), home life (1 Thessalonians. 4:11-12), work life (Colossians 3:22-24 ), church life (1 Corinthians 14 ) and all other areas of society (2 Corinthians 10:5 ). We believe that the only worldview/philosophy that can make sense of all of life and experience is Bible Christianity. Thus the Bible must be the starting point for all of our reasoning. ASH believes that the Lord Jesus Christ also speaks to the mind. We acknowledge that we are called to make disciples of the nations, teaching them to obey the commands of God (Matthew 28 ). We believe this can only be accomplished through the Holy Spirit bringing the Christian community to faithful obedience of the Word of God (as found in the pages of the Old and New Testaments). We assert that what men believe makes a difference and its outworking (good or bad) is seen over time and through generations (Psalm 103:17-18 ). ASH seeks to present the message of the Church's victory over time (Matthew 16:18 , cf. Matthew 13:31-32 ). To do this we believe the Christian community must be concerned with multi-generational culture building, a culture that is family focused (Joshua 24:15 , Acts 16:14-16 , 16:33-35) and by nature the very antithesis to worldly culture. ASH believes there to be at least three pivotal Scriptural prerequisites for a revival of Christian culture across our land; the Church faithfully worshipping the Triune God, the saints trusting and obeying the Scriptures, and fathers turning their hearts back to their children and their children turning their hearts to their father (Malachi 4:4-5 & Luke 1:16-17 ). ASH seeks to: Encourage husbands to take up their God ordained headship; to walk faithfully before God through equipping their family in the Christian Worldview (Ephesians 5 ). Admonish wives to return to the old paths. The paths of submission to their own husband, raising obedient children, being keepers of the home and working towards the vision of their husband (Ephesians 5 , Colossians 3 , 1 Timothy 5 , Titus 2 ; cf. Proverbs 31 ). Call children to honour their parents and turn their hearts back to their father (Ephesians 6 , Malachi 4:4-5 , Luke 1:16-17 ). In all this we hope and earnestly beseech our great God to bless the land of Australia through the work of local churches turning back, in faithful obedience, to the Scriptures. The Church is commanded to teach and baptise the nations. We hold a high view of the role and responsibilities of the Church. Corporate worship is the place where spiritual warfare takes place. Reformation of worship will bring revival to Australia. Our mission: We are dedicated to the building of Biblical family culture throughout Australia by… Restoring and rebuilding Australia’s rich Christian heritage - from Genesis to Revelation; Calling fathers to turn their hearts back to their families; Proclaiming the beauty and glory of Biblical feminine motherhood; Restoring a culture of nobility and honor through “women and children first;” Reviving the blessing of covenantal children and their place in worship; Declaring the sanctity of human life; Encouraging a culture of virtuous boyhood and girlhood; Reigniting Biblical virtues of masculinity and femininity; Recognising culture as your religion externalised; Teaching a Biblical worldview upon presuppositional thinking; Reinforcing history as the providence of God; Building character through home based discipleship and education; Declaring the applicability of the Law of God to every sphere of life; Building courageous men to stand in the gates and defend sound doctrine; Cultivating an attitude of continuous reformation to the Scriptures; Injecting and encouraging the expressible joy of worship of and life in the Triune God; Destroying the myth of religious neutrality. Anselm Study House seeks to help members of the local church accomplish these things by studying, writing about and applying the Scriptures to all of life. Maturity in knowledge and application in the Bible will bring change; but we need the Church to repent and worship the Triune God as He requires in the Scripture. We have a high view of the role of the Church in transforming society, through corporate covenant renewal worship.
